Introduction to the Strange Duality Conjecture for Surfaces

چکیده
The goal of this document is to give a non-technical and imprecise introduction to the strange duality conjecture for surfaces. On the way, we will spend time on Chern classes and moduli of coherent sheaves. Throughout, S will be a smooth projective surface over C and KS will denote a canonical divisor on S. All of the general concepts, such as Chern classes, make sense for varieties of other dimensions too.

On the Strange Duality Conjecture for Elliptic K 3 Surfaces
We consider moduli spaces of semistable sheaves on an elliptically fibered K3 surface, so that the first Chern class of the sheaves is a numerical section. For pairs of complementary such moduli spaces subject to numerical restrictions, we establish the strange duality isomorphism on sections of theta line bundles.
متن کاملRings of Singularities
This paper is a slightly revised version of an introduction into singularity theory corresponding to a series of lectures given at the ``Advanced School and Conference on homological and geometrical methods in representation theory'' at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Miramare - Trieste, Italy, 11-29 January 2010. We show how to associate to a triple of posit...
متن کاملDuality for Orbifoldized Poincare Polynomials
We will show that the duality for regular weight system introduced by K. Saito can be interpreted as the duality for the orbifoldized Poincare polynomial χ(W,G)(y, ȳ). Introduction In [A], Arnold discovered a strange duality among the 14 exceptional singularities. This was interpreted by Dolgachev, Nikulin and Pinkham in terms of the duality between algebraic cycles and transcendental cycles on...
متن کاملMirror Symmetry, Kobayashi's Duality, and Saito's Duality
M. Kobayashi introduced a notion of duality of weight systems. We tone this notion slightly down to a notion called coupling. We show that coupling induces a relation between the reduced zeta functions of the monodromy operators of the corresponding singularities generalizing an observation of K. Saito concerning Arnold's strange duality. We show that the weight systems of the mirror symmetric ...
متن کاملThe Poincaré series of some special quasihomogeneous surface singularities
In [E6] a relation is proved between the Poincaré series of the coordinate algebra of a two-dimensional quasihomogeneous isolated hypersurface singularity and the characteristic polynomial of its monodromy operator. We study this relation for Fuchsian singularities and show that it is connected with the mirror symmetry of K3 surfaces and with automorphisms of the Leech lattice. We also indicate...
